In comparison with its printed predecessor, the digital database “geschichtsquellen.de” is not only an updated version of the Repertorium Fontium, but also offers a number of additional search options. Besides a full-text search function, users may research in the lists of authors and works, transmission forms, places and persons, or using various search fields such as keywords, genres or regions separately or in combination. Even users not looking for detailed information on a specific text but rather seeking general information about which sources exist on a given subject will readily find what they are looking for.
The first database version, which was released in 2012, encompassed 4737 medieval historical works, almost one fifth of which were new entries supplementing the original stock of the Repertorium Fontium. A new version is scheduled for the fall of 2019. Besides expanding the database to encompass now 5550 texts, we have updated and revised all previously existing articles in the digital database and added more links to digitized manuscripts and research literature. Additionally, the new version also offers additional search functions for manuscripts and incipits. Thanks to technical improvements, it will be possible for us to continuously update and augment the online database.
